Ruby Lee is a new red-chaffed variety from Oklahoma Genetics, Inc and is positioned for intensive management acres. It has a very high grain yield potential and grazeability is exceptional, though grazing must be terminated earlier in the spring than with Endurance. Ruby Lee's yield record in OSU and K-State tests has been very good, especially in the central corridor. Ruby Lee does not tolerate acid soils as well as Gallagher, Garrison, Duster, and Endurance. It has very good drought resistance. It is moderately susceptible to stripe rust, so a fungicide might be needed some years to protect its high yield potential. Ruby Lee is the highest protein wheat available for growers at this time. If a farmer has good on farm storage then Ruby Lee is the best variety as protein bonuses are over a dollar now.
