Smith's Gold
Adapted to the Central Plains, this single-cross progeny of Gallagher resembles Gallagher in many ways, but with improved backing quality and better leaf hygiene in the presence of prolonged infections of stripe rust. Resistances to Hessian fly and current greenbug biotypes are combined in Smith's Gold than in Gallagher, but not as strong to the current races or prolonged infections compared with Gallagher. Smith's Gold is prone to physiological leaf spotting, and to pre-harvest sprouting if harvest is significantly delayed (like Gallagher). Highly suited for dual-purpose managrment managrment system but with a potentially later pull-off date (0-11 days) than Gallagher. Very good milling and baking properties as confirmed by the Wheat Quality Council.
